# Rebuilding Self-Trust After a manipulative relationship, one of the hardest losses is trust in your own judgment. Rebuilding it is a daily practice, not a single decision. ## Start small Self-trust returns through kept promises to yourself. Start with promises so small you can't fail: - Drink a glass of water when you wake up - Step outside for two minutes - Text one friend once a week ## Track your instincts Keep a simple journal with three prompts: 1. What did I notice today? 2. What did I feel? 3. What did I do? After a few weeks, patterns emerge — and you'll see your instincts were often right. ## Reintroduce your own opinions Manipulation trains you to defer. Practice low-stakes preferences: which coffee you want, which movie you'd pick, which route you'd take. These small choices rebuild agency. ## Be patient with setbacks Doubt will return, especially under stress. It's not evidence that you're broken — it's a habit fading. Each time you check in with yourself instead of asking someone else, the habit weakens.
