Gray rock method
Deliberately becoming uninteresting in contact you can't yet avoid, to reduce reaction and supply.
Short, flat, factual replies with no emotion and no new information. It is a containment tactic for unavoidable contact, not a strategy for repairing a relationship.
What it looks like
- 'Noted.' 'That works.' 'I'll confirm by Friday.'
- Answering the logistics question and none of the bait attached to it.
What it isn't
- Punishing silence, or a way to win.
- A long-term substitute for a boundary or an exit plan.
One thing to do with this
Pre-write three replies you can send without thinking. Gray rock fails when you improvise.
Where this shows up in the field guide
